Workshops
Moku `o Lo`e located in Kaneohe Bay is also known as "Coconut island" or "Giliganʻs Island." It is home to HIMB - Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, a part of the University of Hawaii. I visited twice for two Water Quality workshops for our Ma Ka Hana Ka `Ike project engaged in Aquaponics.
Our first visit was on January 14, 2012. Almost 30 people participated. Our second workshop was help February 25, 2012 and had 14 participants. For many it was their first time on the island and they were very happy and excited to be there. They learned how to care for their Aquaponics systems, the importance of water and how it helps the fish and plants. They were also treated to a tour of the island and the many things that go on there. We hope to offer more opportunities for our community members to visit Moku `o Lo`e in the future. |
